An oxygen concentrator is an electronic machine that provides pure oxygen by concentrating it from the air. An oxygen concentrator takes the place of large five-foot-tall oxygen cylinders or liquid oxygen canisters, which continually need to be exchanged or refilled.

The oxygen delivery rate can be adjusted to suit the needs of the patient by setting the flow meter. Delivery rates range from 1/2 or 1 liter per minute up to 3 to 5 liters per minute, depending upon the concentrator.
